Matthew's artwork expresses themes drawn from Plein Air and Still Life, responding to nature, form, and light. He often works in situ, directly connecting him to the subject, exploring places of natural beauty and inspiration while executing the land's energy, and color, with expressive brushwork.

After training in Art and Design - at Geelong TAFE, (1993) Matthew lived between country Victoria and Melbourne where he was involved in community theater, set and costume design for dance, and pantomime. Between 1998-2000 he worked with the  Chandrabhanu Dance Company and School of Classical Arts as a lighting and stage assistant to Geoffrey Goldie (student to George Bell). During this time of exposure to performing art, he also produced a series of paintings and drawings for the Brunswick Art Collective.
In 2000 he moved to the UK, and while living in the Devon countryside he painted a series of Plein air works. These formative experiences set the foundation for his artistry.

In 2004 Matthew returned to Australia to further develop his creative portfolio. With an emphasis on landscape painting and native botanicals, he has produced four solo exhibitions.
Currently living in the Northern Rivers of NSW, his artwork can be viewed at his showroom GALLEON Bangalow.
