Sansom's artwork is an exploration of nature, storytelling, craft and design. Expressing a range of themes, he covers drawing, printmaking and painting.
'Inspiration is found in things that arise spontaneously appearing both timeless and poignant. Art making presence and studio practice to access a craft that develops over time. This compels movement towards resolve that can be seen and felt, poetical and musical.'
After studying Art and Design at TAFE Geelong (1993), Sansom lived in country Victoria where he was involved with Community theater, music and art making.
He also worked on set and costume design for dance theater and music - Wolfgang theater company and Chandrabhanu dance company - Academy of Indian arts (assistant to Geoffrey Goldie. Melbourne. 2019-2000).
After 3 years living in the UK he returned to Australia to further develop an art and illustration portfolio. Currently located in the Northern Rivers of NSW.
In recent years his practice includes sketching in paint local beaches, cliffs and hinterland. From these field studies, which are often finished works in themselves, he makes larger scale studio pieces. Along side of new figurative works he has also produced a body of water colour illustrations as expressions of the imagination.
For the artist, the work is constantly shifting and evolving.
Sansom has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions, local and internationally, he has garnered a string of awards along the way, including first place at the Caldera Award 2009.
