Sansom's artwork is expressed with images of nature, storytelling and design.
Encompassing landscapes, botanical and figurative. His application of aesthetic preferences are derived from traditional and cultural influences. His exploration of Landscape, heritage and the imagination brings a unique approach to art making.
Growing up in Geelong, Victoria, Sansom cites early influences from his parents passion for home and garden decorating, antique barns and his involvement with Geelong society of dramatic arts.
After studying Art and design at TAFE Matthew moved to country Victoria to pursuit a more alternative lifestyle with emphasis on Community theatre, music and his visual art practice. He also worked in Melbourne on set and costume design for dance and theatre and music.
After some years spent living in UK and Europe he returned to Australia primarily to focus on visual art.
Drawn to places of natural beauty he locating to the Norther Rivers.
In recent years he has developed design work for interiors, printing and fashion.
His current body of work is an exploration of Plein air painting, with themes such as Australian coastal living, the changing landscape and Botanical.
He is also exploring a series of Still life paintings and drawings, which showcase his expressive design and colour style.
He has exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions around Australia, the Middle east, UK, and garnered awards along the way.
Many of Sansom's artworks can been found in private collections around the world.
